Alternative Career?

Weekend in New York: Martinis - Places That Put the Proper Prefix on the -tini - Travel - NYTimes: "Every drink is made with almost appalling care by bartenders who would rather shake up drinks than chat up customers."

Yep, I definitely need to get into this business. Exactly my mentality when I host something... but seriously, excellent article about a return to precision and craftsmanship. Finally!

Please Lord, a little mercy

:: The Playlist ::: Madonna To Remake 'Casablanca'; Set The Film In Iraq?

Madonna really makes me cringe sometimes? Why can't she stick to pop stardom? Did she really have to remake "American Pie?" At least the world forgot that one... but Casablanca? Please don't touch that!

And Scarlett Johansson wants to record an album of Tom Waits covers? Sigh.. sighs of the apocalypse?

Color as Punctuation Marks

This is a wonderful little article about the spirit of Paul Smith (and Ted Baker)-style expression. It captures *exactly* what I love about their designs.

Paul Smith's Mission for Men to Wear Color: "Smith laments the decline of the peacock male in the modern world and bemoans the decline of flamboyant youth tribes, from mods to hippies to the crazy-colored British goths, that have kept menswear interesting over the decades. “I love all that because it’s self-expression through nonviolent means, not wanting to look like your elder brother or your mum and dad, just saying, ‘I am me,’ ” he says. In his view, clothing—in fact, just about everything—should be leavened with humor, and the world takes itself too seriously too often. “People grow up so quickly now. In a way, they miss a lot of fun.”"

I may not be the funniest man, but I do love a bit of stylish tongue-in-cheek playfulness. And he was a (would-be) cyclist!
