Up, Up, and Away: "Today, air travel is just another form of mass transit. Is there any going back to the glamorous days of yore?"
Intriguing essay about the alleged loss of airline glamor. Postrel asserts that travel nostalgia yearns for a past that never was. I'm too few in years to know, although I assume she's right. I can't imagine the old planes that once ruled the sky were comfortable in any way. Perhaps the lure of the exotic and foreign retained a bit of glamor as planes had to fly around the globe in a series of short hops and skips prior to the dawn of the modern jet, landing in cities unknown outside the 1001 Nights.
A short, intriguing read.
