FT.com--Welcome to Dubai, the society that capitalism built
While I generally regard Dubai as a sort of Arabian Las Vegas-Disneyland and effectively have no desire to visit, this article exposes and interesting (and positive) side of the explosive development going on in the UAE. At least on the surface, residents have laid aside questions of nationality, race, and ethnicity (although presumably not religion) and have settled down to live, play, and do business. It is, at best, a ray of hope and a sure sign of the vast and more tolerant majority comprising the Islamic world. At worst, it remains a beautiful notion.
