Today's lesson

Sociolinguistics—the study of the effect of any and all aspects of society, including cultural norms, expectations, and context, on the way language is used.

Sigh....rabid curiosity can be quite a cruel fault when one is trying to accomplish work late at night and happens to get into a discussion about "the royal we" and needs to cite a definition from whence one learns of the termpluralis majestatis and the field of sociolinguistics. Intriguing. And distracting.

This was round 2 after a brief discourse on determinism v. free will over a cup of maté.
