Total Vanity

So I’m walking briskly to the metro this morning and for once I was actually looking more than three feet ahead of me and what did I see? Some other young urban professional or grad student with the same Tom Bihn bag as me. I overcome by a very strange feeling, since I’m not exactly attached to the bag, but I did think I was being rather unique and doing my fair share to support the Mac artist community by purchasing from a little shop that makes stylish messenger bags by hand for real bicycle messengers in the Seattle area (plus I knew the shoulder strap would be angled the right way and never fall apart). But no—some other dude who lives within three blocks of me has the same bag slung over his shoulder, although he might not have the slightly cheeky neon green lining swathed in somber corporate grays and blacks that I do. Do I feel validated? Threatened? Or just go on living? Maybe he opted for a cheeky blue or red instead. Anyway—I guess I experienced some sort of feeling akin to emotions that some women attach to their purses. Maybe.

Well, most shallow post ever. Hurray.
