Kings X

I really am rather dubious about this one, off the Economist Cities Guide for London:

"...some local residents complain the scheme has been “rushed” and that it could turn King’s Cross into 'another Canary Wharf', with lots of empty office space. According to the firm behind the plan, Argent, the redevelopment will be finished in 2020."

I am definitely keeping an eye on the area, as the terminal will be revitalized largely due to the 2012 Olympics and its central role in making most of the venues accessible. The blurb included news about a new "Channel Tunnel Link" as well--is the Eurostar getting extended? Please inform if you're in the know. Interesting times, but Kings Cross just doesn't have the landscape eye candy in my opinion to be the success story that Canary is turning into. More likely it will be like Canary in the early-mid 1990s. Still, it will be nice to see the neighborhood cleaned up a bit. Certainly rather dodgy at the moment. This is, of course, me speaking in a voice which utterly disregards the livelihood of the current residents in favor of greater London.... but as a former resident on the edge of the neighborhood, I'd feel quite a bit safer if it was cleaned up, at least a little bit. It's not a dingy-dodgy neighborhood with *character*--it's just plain run down.
