Creating an EU-wide Mobile Market

Is this the beginnings of an EU equivalent to America's nationwide roaming? It's probably the ONE area where we are "advanced" in the mobile industry. With Europe essentially on continent-wide GSM, it's delightful that I can cross borders and still use my phone through a patchwork of mobile carrier alliances, but the balkanized ownership strangles me with some pretty hefty fees. If this is disappearing, it's positively brilliant and more than due time for a change. Brussels at it's best in terms of government involvement in business.

In other mobile news, if London continues with its plans to install cellular networks in the Underground or airlines begin to allow phones in flight, it is positive and utter folly and invasiveness. There are a select few bastions of silence left in this world where even we-the-constantly-connected must temporarily put our digicrack addictions on hold and step away. Constant connection will be invasive to fellow travelers in either of these mediums, where you are essentially locked into a seat (at least during heavy commuting hours) and can't get away from a loud talker on their phone.
