Smaller Than LIfe

In a modest, humble speech that seems quite the opposite of Bush's older, blustery, bigger-than-life Texan crusading, America heard an appeal for energy conservation and alternative fuels, improved education to counteract Asia's rising giants, and other humble petitions...as well as a gaping void regarding New Orleans and other tragedies and down notes from the year before.

One blurb I particularly like:

Bush, Resetting Agenda, Says U.S. Must Cut Reliance on Oil - New York Times: "'In a complex and challenging time, the road of isolationism and protectionism may seem broad and inviting, yet it ends in danger and decline,' he said. 'The only way to protect our people, the only way to secure the peace, the only way to control our destiny is by our leadership, so the United States of America will continue to lead.'"
