It's about time for an "I'm a giant tech weenie" post...
The title links to a rather interesting post plumbing through the idea of emotional attachments to our online log-ins and emerging cyber-identies. This is perhaps most true with online networking sites like the Facebook, Friendster, or Linked In, but as the article discusses, emotional attachments and ties to one's identity are equally shaped by things as simple as photo sharing sites like techie (and my) favorite, Flickr.
I am definitely inclined to agree with the author, as my own current Yahoo! ID lies dormant, dusty, and bloated--in order to have a unique identity among Yahoo's many registered users, it's a rather complex combination of various greek mythologies and some equally cryptic password. Flickr is, of course, much more elegant and linked to my identity here at Blogger. O well...
It all reminds me of Locke and Demosthenes and the possibilities of online identity in Card's Ender's Game.
