A Fistful of Euros: More on peat bogs
Additional details on some of the commentary I linked to at the end of last week. On one hand, the author cites the possibility that this is all poorly interpretted theory. But he accepts that as highly unlikely and optimistic. The frightening details come when he goes through the exponentially worse damage that methane can cause relative to C02 in terms of greenhouse warming effects....
Worrisome, with some interesting out-there solutions (planetary level landscaping by releasing GMOs specifically suited to devouring harmful elements.... with unknown full term consequences). Definitely worth a quick read.
Unfortunately, they also nail the political situation all too accurately. Scientists right now are unable to commit to the factual basis of all this and only provide strong theoretical evidence. With a real decision only coming years from now, it might be too little too late. And politics, governments, and citizens these days want instant gratification and care about the here and now. With ever shortening attention spans and reduced selflessness, it comes down to me me me and now now now. We won't be solving ANYTHING that way.
