London II

Some of this had occured to me (notably the fact that the Edgeware Road stop is near Regent's Park and the National Mosque, which I stumbled upon while wandering through that most fabulous of city parks that landed it's own blog entry). Anyway, credit to Europhobia for the quote on this one (blog link on sidebar). If it was al-Qaeda, are they striking at their own as a sign of their "softness" and non-fundamentalism? Or is it an outside party trying to attack the image of Islam in a city where it generally peacefully coexists? Or perhaps it's a spot where, with so many from the larger community in place, a few more radical members of the community could sink in unnoticed and unobserved and exploit security holes in the local transport infrastructure. Who knows? Perhaps time will tell. It will be interesting to see what security measures the city (permanently) puts in place. Glad that the death count so far seems low, at least compared to Madrid, but I still grieve at the tragedy.

"An observation:
Liverpool St/Aldgate East/Moorgate was all the same incident.
- this is near Brick Lane, with a sizable Bangladeshi/Muslim community.
Edgeware Road
- the heart of a major Arab/Muslim community
King's Cross/Russell Square and Woburn Place
- by the King's Cross Estate, with a sizable Bangladeshi/Muslim community, plus the School of Oriental and African Studies, one of the world's leading universities for the study of Islam (amongst others)"
