Wasted Energy - New York Times

Unlike the prevailing arguments, this writer argues that appeasement is good. Essentially Jaffe feels that forcing China out of the safe and legal energy arena will drive it in to the arms of less savory parties or even provoke retaliatory military action. The first part I can definitely concede: China is already talking readily with global pariahs like Iran and the Sudan.... not to mention its hot/cold relationship with North Korea. As for military--I believe they have the largest military in terms of manpower, and they are spending tremendous amounts on their arensenal. Whether threats about attacking America's west coast, Taiwan, or other areas will ever materialize..... no idea.

Interesting article.
