My heart wandered back across the ocean after reading about this one.... Girona is VERY easily accessible via RyanAir if you find yourself in London. But the sun, mountains, Spain, tapas, old cities, Spain, and bikes bikes bikes..... I do love Catalonia-- what I've seen of it anyway, and I haven't even been to Girona. Nice article about the city where most US Pros spend their time training.
Finding Nirvana on Two Wheels - New York Times: "Girona's lures are obvious. Nearly equidistant from Barcelona (52 miles) and the French border (48 miles), easily accessible by air or rail, the city has a gentrified, culturally rich historic district, upscale shopping and dining, a thriving university campus and peaceful, expansive parks. Just a few minutes' ride from the city center are tranquil roads and trails leading into the foothills of the Pyrenees to the west or the beaches of the Costa Brava to the east, with enough rolling terrain to keep the professional riders in shape between races."

I cannot think of a better guide to Spain! It shall happen. When, I know not, but it shall and must.
and then I'll conquer Latin America via motorbike, with a tip of the hat to that reckless spirit Che.
