Glover Gill and the Tosco Tango Orchestra. Who are they? No idea. They DID perform a good portion of the soundtrack to Waking Life, that seminal work on dreamscapes by the ever brilliant Richard Linklater. Perennial college favourite, but I like to be arrogant and think I beat the rest of them to the punch...I saw it in theatres after all. Enough with my mock arrogance. I bring this up, because so many of the soundtrack's pieces are, for lack of a better word, amazing. Sitting here picking away at my thesis, and the orchestra comes on, picking at their violins, in an exquisite display of talented brilliance, swirling piano keys and soaring, delicate, staccato violin notes. All I can say is exquisite exquisite exquisite. And does it ever get stuck in your head. The song in question is "El Cholulo." No idea if that means anything in any of the tongues of this earth... The song is true beauty, that is all I know.
Unfortunately there is no iTMS link--you can, of course, purchase the soundtrack on that ancient compact disc format... or beg me for a play.
