Tom Wolfe: 'The liberal elite hasn't got a clue'

Guardian Unlimited | US elections 2004 | 'The liberal elite hasn't got a clue'

The Guardian interviewed Tom Wolfe, celebrated author of Bonfire of the Vanities, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, and The Right Stuff, among others. Part of the wealthy Manhattan intelligentista, Wolfe's comments demonstrate that he's still able to cut through the social fabrications of modern America to the real truth. It's a startlingly conservative piece, but alarmingly convincing to a moderate like I consider myself. Some excellent points--to make a decision tomorrow, I feel like
a) Is Kerry a true visionary leader and not simply a politician good at the game?
b) Is Bush capable of rejecting his stubborn behaviors and acting in a more responsible, less far right ideologue manner?

Personally, I feel that "a" has a greater chance of receiving a positive answer than "b." Do we hand the keys of power to the arrogant and elitism New Englander or to the arrogant, bumbling, "down to earth" Texan?
