Summit to Discuss Turkey EU Bid
The entry of Turkey into the European Union, which is beginning to look distant but inevitable, will dramatically shift the nature of this experiment in supranationalism. A poor, populous nation, it will shift the axis of power ever further from France. France, understandly, has been quite perturbed at suggestions of Turkey's entry. Germany, on the other hand, with a huge population of Turkish immigrants, has been a relentless advocate.
